It’s everybody’s job to fight against fraud
If your are a non-immigrated resident be aware of fraud at all times. Remember, no company or attorney can help you obtain a legalization benefit until the Comprehensive Immigration Reform is signed into law. Please do not allow yourself to be victimized by scam companies. The best thing you can do for now is to start collecting the reliable documents you will need to establish eligibility for participation in a legalization program.
On November 20, 2014, the President announced a series of executive actions to crack down on illegal immigration at the border, prioritize deporting felons not families, and require certain undocumented immigrants to pass a criminal background check and pay taxes in order to temporarily stay in the U.S. without fear of deportation. Here too, you need to be aware of scammers. USCIS advises that they will be unable to accept applications or issue the necessary forms for approximately 180 days.
While USCIS is not accepting requests or applications at this time, they strongly advise, if you believe you may be eligible for one of the initiatives listed above, you can prepare by gathering documents that establish factors such as your:
- Identity;
- Relationship to a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; and
- Continuous residence in the United States over the last five years or more.
